Elderly Care -- Adult Day Community
The Truth In The Spirit
Coming to unity in our communities must begin with the practical aspects of our daily
lives. Elders help us to apply the wisdom of God’s Word to our choices, families,
marriages and overall community involvement. In today’s society, the elderly are often
overlooked and forgotten. This is not only hurtful to someone who has lived a full and
fruitful life, it is also harmful to the community at large, as we miss out on wisdom
from their experiences. Caring for the
elderly is not just an issue in the secular
world; believers and congregations also
struggle with how to respectfully and
appropriately minister to the needs of
elderly family members and congregants.
To address this growing concern, Adonai
has charged The Truth In The Spirit with
empowering aging citizens to continue to
serve their communities.
The Elderly Care branch of service is focused on just that: caring for the elderly and
allowing the community to benefit from these elders. The elderly have much to offer
the community. We can enrich and even prolong the lives of our elders by showing
them that God still has a purpose for them and their existence can still positively affect
the lives of others around them. The elderly are a seldom resourced treasure and a
weapon in our arsenal to reclaim our families, congregations and communities. For this
reason, The Truth In The Spirit is opening The Truth Center Adult Day Community.
The Truth Center Adult Day Community
The Truth In The Spirit is a 501(c)3 non-profit corporation focused on community development. Through The Truth
Center Adult Day Community, we care for and resource the elderly in our community. We all can benefit from the
wisdom and experience of the elders if we care enough to interact with them and humble ourselves enough to listen to
them. Through adult daycare, outreach activities, resources and referrals, The Truth Center Adult Day Community
provides a special place where aging and physically challenged adults can receive quality personal daycare from
professional staff, obtain community resources and be a resource to the community. We give the elderly and impaired
in our community a voice and willing listeners. Feeling that they have a purpose in life can help maintain dignity and
prolong the life of an elderly or impaired person. An elder or physically challenged individual who is connected to the
community can incite positive changes that could not come from any other segment of the local population.
Services Provided
The Truth Center Adult Day Community provides a myriad of
services to help us reach our goals for the programs and individual
goals for each participant. To meet our physical health goals, we
provide professional nursing care, low-impact exercise and activities
options and healthy meals and snacks throughout the day. As we
coordinate with the participants’ doctors, family members and
personal representatives, we create and implement physical health
goals to be included and measured in their individualized care plans
and help them connect to services needed. Our nursing staff
acquires and administers medications to participants and assists in
scheduling medical appointments. Transportation, through
contracted services, is available for participants to travel to and from
appointments and on regular field trips as well. Our facility provides
a safe and homelike environment, so that we may offer many
opportunities for time outside during warm weather, and we offer
two field trips each month that give the participants opportunities to
move around and visit new locations. We have concerts by local
musicians at our Center at least two Fridays each month to offer
mental stimulation and interaction. Mentally stimulating activities,
such as games and puzzles, are offered daily, as well as time for quiet
reading, meditation and reflection.
To meet our emotional and spiritual integration goals, we provide
spiritual guidance by ministers, emotional stimulation by nurses as
well as fun and interactive activities throughout the day, balanced by
opportunities for individual activities or quiet times. Our staff also
provides craft activities, musical stimulation (with live and recorded
music) and theme-based interactions to become and feel apart of the
family atmosphere of The Truth Center Adult Day Community.
Through various daily activities, participants have the opportunities to
get to know one another, explore various cultures and aspects of life,
and influence the programs and environment of The Center itself.
Participants also have the opportunity to build their own skills
through optional entrepreneurship trainings and creative writing
classes, both of which can actually lead to new ventures for the
participants, as they receive opportunities to start small businesses
(like selling crocheted items) and publishing their writings (as in a
book of poems or short stories). These opportunities increase the
self-worth of each participant, encouraging them and adding value to
their lives. Our community involvement and youth interaction
programs also assist us in meeting our emotional and spiritual
integration goals. The community involvement programs include
optional training in new technologies to connect with the community,
as well.
Operation
Our Adult Day Community service hours are from 6:30
AM to 6:00 PM Mondays through Fridays. Our
business office hours, for receiving information and
tours or registering your loved one, are from 9:00 AM
to 6:00 PM Mondays through Fridays. We will soon
schedule special events one Sunday of each month,
called Senior Sundays, where participants in our Adult
Day Community may enjoy a Sunday with us, allowing
their loved ones to take care of needed tasks, rest or
worship. Additionally, we will offer one Saturday
night a month, called Caregivers Night Out, for
participants of our Adult Day Community to join us
one Saturday evening, giving their caregivers an
evening off.

Population
At The Truth Center Adult Day Community, we serve ambulatory adults
ages 18 and up, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender or religious affiliation,
who need assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs) are also included
in our service population. We also serve adults who are physically impaired,
including those using wheelchairs, walkers or canes for assistance. Our
service population also includes adults who are experiencing slight memory
loss or the beginning stages of Alzheimer’s.

Program Components and Goals
The programs of The Truth Center Adult Day Community focus on the
following areas: physical health and healing, spiritual and emotional and caring
staff (to include an RN, LPN and CNAs) ensure that each participant is
properly assessed—physically, emotionally and mentally—and appropriate
individualized care plans are created to maintain and increase health and
independence in all areas of life. Additionally, we provide opportunities for
participants to choose to receive either Bible-based inspiration or non-religious
inspiration each day. We also offer group discussions on various topics that
affect the emotional and mental health of the participants, such as families,
relationships, community life, finances, etc.
As we are a community development organization, connecting the elderly to
the community is an important component of our Adult Day Community. We
make these connections through offering community resources and referrals
to our participants, as well as informing them of issues of concern in the
community and seeking their opinions and wisdom. Each week, the
participants of The Truth Center Adult Day Community have the opportunity
to learn about an issue of community concern, ways in which various
community members are getting involved in those issues, and opportunities to
voice their opinions. As the participants share their opinions, they choose
whether or not to have their views recorded (in a written or video format) and
then shared with other community members and organizations. Additionally,
we take field trips to various places in our community twice each month that
educate the participants about community issues and give them an opportunity
to make connections with key people and places in our community.
Another important element in helping the elderly and impaired make
community connections is connecting them with youth in our community in a
program called “Kid Connection”. Youth from our community come to The
Center at least twice a month to connect with the participants. Each
participant has the opportunity to choose to be paired with one youth for
meaningful interactions at The Center. Through our community involvement
and youth interaction components, the participants have many opportunities to
make a difference in the lives of others around them and the community at
large. Our community involvement and youth interaction programs are
inspired by the following Bible quotation:
“God, you have taught me since I was young, and I still proclaim your
wonderful works. So now that I’m old, and my hair is gray, don’t abandon
me, God, till I have proclaimed your strength to the next generation, your
power to all who will come.”—Psalm 71:17-18.
