Transformation and Spiritual Empowerment
Within These Walls
![]()
In ancient times, kingdoms fortified their cities with walls. Day and night soldiers were assigned to these walls. They watched the surrounding area for impending danger and warned the city of any threats. Many soldiers still serve as watchmen to protect innocent civilians in their homes. They continually stand guard to be sure no enemy will by any means harm the citizens within the walls.
The Body of Believers has watchmen as well. We are leaders who have received salvation through Yeshua (Jesus’ name in the original Hebrew) and taken vows to shepherd God’s people by feeding, guiding and protecting them. We do not stand guard in the physical realm with guns or body armor; we stand guard in the spiritual realm with the full armor of God to protect against attacks from Satan and his army (see 2 Cor. 10:3-5 & Eph. 6:10-18).
Though God has commissioned watchmen, believers continue to be abused by other believers and even leaders in the Body. This is happening because God’s watchmen are not guarding the walls. Rather than sound the alarm when we see the enemy approaching, we cover up sin or try to pray it away without taking action (see James 2:14-24). This leaves babes in the Messiah (both children and adults) defenseless against attacks and puts their blood on our hands (see Ezekiel 33:1-6).
Preparing for the Post
A watchman is a type of guard, and the best way to attack a guarded person is to recruit their guard for your cause. Thus, the guard becomes the attacker. The benefit to the mastermind is that the victim will not associate the true villain with the attack. Instead, they will only see their betrayer and begin to question everyone they trust. This is Satan’s plan to use believers, especially leaders, to attack God’s sheep.
All leaders within the Body of the Messiah are charged with protecting God’s sheep. Yet every secret sin area in our lives has the potential to become an area in which we are used by the enemy to attack them. Hence, leaders in the Body must continually deal with our own sin in order to be used by God to protect His sheep from attack. If we have sin in our lives or hearts, it causes us to overlook sin in others or judge sheep caught in sin. Hence, we become agents of the enemy rather than watchmen.
Daily confession of sin is essential for leaders in the Body. When we pray and study God’s word each day, we must also confess our sins. The Ruach HaKodesh (Holy Spirit) will reveal sins to us if we sincerely desire revelation. Not a day goes by when we do not sin in thought, motive or deed, all of which must be confessed to God and cleansed by Yeshua (Jesus) before we take the post of watchman that day for the Body of the Messiah.
Standing on the Wall
Once prepared for the post of watchman, we must consciously decide to stand on the wall each day. In John 10:11-13, Yeshua states, “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. The hired hand is not the shepherd who owns the sheep. So when he sees the wolf coming, he abandons the sheep and runs away. Then the wolf attacks the flock and scatters it. The man runs away because he is a hired hand and cares nothing for the sheep.” Each day, leaders in the Body must decide whether we are hired hands or representatives of the Good Shepherd. Hired hands teach, preach and minister because it is their job, and they get paid for it. Representatives of the Good Shepherd respond to God’s call on our lives, work only to please Him (not man), and sacrifice ourselves for the sheep. Standing watch is a sacrifice because we are placing ourselves in the most dangerous place in the Body. Only men and women of faith can accept this charge.
When people accept Yeshua into their lives, the Adversary begins to work overtime to snatch them from the fold. As unbelievers, they are no threat to his authority. Yet as soon as they become believers, he recognizes potential and they immediately become very threatening. All watchmen are responsible for all sheep within the walls. Continued on page 2.
From your sister . . .
In preparation for the Messiah’s return, God is uniting all of us within the Body of the Messiah as He sets His house in order. The children of Isra’el are receiving the Messiah in large numbers all over the world. With the return of Jews to their rightful place in the Body of Believers, a new level of revelation is available to all of us. To help reconnect us with our Jewish roots, a few words in this newsletter are in their original Hebrew. The Body is also running forcefully into another apostolic age in which five-fold ministers are being raised up all over the world, increasing our collective anointing to fight the Adversary. When next level revelation and anointing come together, they bring the children of God into the most powerful place we have been since the Messiah ascended. Awaiting HIS Return is being sent to you to increase the revelation and anointing upon you and your ministry to reclaim the earth for the Messiah. Now is the time for us to come together in the fight. I pray this issue will bless you, and I encourage you to share with us that which God has placed in you as well.
Yours in His service,
Prophetess Markita Smith

The enemy will come into the camp at whatever hole in the wall he can find. Even if that hole is in someone else’s congregation, he can find his way into yours because we are all inside the one wall. A breach in the wall is dangerous for us all, so we must all take responsibility for manning it.
Keeping Watch
When a leader in God’s army receives the call to stand watch on the wall, he or she must then know what to look for. The enemy is crafty, and he can come in many ways with many tactics. Keeping watch takes watchmen who understand sin and the tactics of the Adversary through battles in their own lives. Inexperienced believers cannot stand watch for the Body. They themselves may be deceived and then used by the enemy to attack the city. Leaders whose concern is the appearance of holiness rather than actually allowing the blood of Yeshua to make them holy are also dangerous as watchmen.
This is the tragedy occurring throughout the Body today with clergy members molesting, assaulting and otherwise attacking the sheep in their care. These leaders clearly have not experienced the cleansing power of the blood of Yeshua in their lives, so they are literally working both sides of the fence. It is the duty of the true watchmen to sound the alarm whenever the enemy is spotted near or within the camp, even if other leaders have brought him in.
Sounding the Alarm
When a watchman spots the enemy outside (or inside) the walls, he/she must sound the alarm to alert God’s army of the enemy’s presence. The watchman should always be prepared for battle, but he/she is not expected to fight alone. We are given shofars (trumpets of ram’s horns) to summon God’s troops. Many spiritual battles are lost here because watchmen take on the responsibility of fighting battles alone. God does not expect any of us to be a one-man army. Only pride or shame would have us believe that. God’s way is always one of cooperation and unity within the Body of the Messiah.
Sounding the alarm means many things. The first blast of the shofar should always be prayer. This releases the situation to God, calls angels into battle positions to war along side us and requests revelation about who to call with the second shofar blast. The second blast calls together God’s army here on earth to join us at the point of the wall currently under attack (see Nehemiah 4:19-20). This army consists of intercessors, leaders in the Kingdom, spiritual warriors and those experienced with battling the specific demonic forces attacking. We must be united for spiritual warfare. “Divide and conquer” was invented by Satan; as long as we allow him to keep us separated, we will continue to be defeated.
Gathering at the Wall
When a watchman alerts the army of a potential attack, he/she must then release the battle and its outcome to God. It is not the watchman’s battle. We are just agents being used to protect God’s people against the enemy. When the army comes together, God will decide which post each soldier should take. Please note that battle assignments will not always be the same because each spiritual battle is different. One soldier may be tremendously effective in certain battles, but one or two particular unclean spirits may be a challenge for him/her (see 2 Sam. 21:15-17). God knows this and that is why He must give the commands each time. Additionally, the tactics for each battle may differ. God’s army cannot attempt to fight the Adversary using the same tactics every time because he will come in different ways just to test us and the power of our God (see 2 Sam. 5:17-25 and 1 Kings ch. 20). Obedience to God and submission to His revelation is essential in winning spiritual battles.
Binding the Strongman
When a watchman has spotted a potential attack, the enemy soldiers and their tactics must be identified. This calls for serious prayer, fasting and deliberation among God’s army. Spiritual warfare is more than just the acknowledgement of sins; it includes expelling unclean spirits from people, places and things. The discovery of demonic forces can be alarming in a congregation, but we must address it as Yeshua did: expel the demon, save the soul. We cannot be ruled by emotions such as disappointment, shame or fear. These immobilize God’s army. Instead, we must allow God to reveal the truth, no matter how uncomfortable it is, through prayer and fasting (see Matthew 17:19-21).
In John 8:32, Yeshua said, “you shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free.” He means all truth, even truth that is hard to look at. Once revealed, it gives us power over the Adversary. Then, the underlying spirit, the strongman, can be exposed and properly bound (see Matthew 12:29), thus providing the opportunity for all unclean spirits to be cast out. The leader of the congregation can then minister healing to the person delivered from the spirit(s) as well as to the people attacked. Follow-up ministry is essential because it keeps the person free from future bondage (see Luke 11:24-26), teaches them how to live free and protects the congregation from attack by shame and condemnation. The leader must also sound the shofar a third time for victory. The third blast is a testimony of this victory to other congregations and leaders so they may be victorious against the Adversary in this area as well.
Yeshua
said that the gates of hell would not prevail against His Community of
Believers (Matthew 16:18). Because the
Body is built upon the revelation that Yeshua is the Anointed One of God,
believers are no longer enslaved to sin.
If leaders in the Body are free from bondage to sin and we empower
others to walk in the same freedom, the gates of hell will not prevail against
us because sin is the entry way for Satan.
Leaders who are washed in the Blood of Yeshua and allow Him to
continually cleanse us are capable watchmen over God’s flock. Through faith in Yeshua and by His authority,
we can declare to them, “nothing by any means will harm you. Within these walls, you are safe.”

End Times Teaching
A Time for Judgment
“For it is time for judgment to begin with the family
of God; and if it begins with us, what will the outcome be for those who do not
obey the gospel of God?”—1 Peter 4:17
“Now the glory of the God of Israel went up from above

![]()
As students of Yeshua (Jesus’ name in the original Hebrew) and followers of His Word, we see clearly that the Day of Judgment is at hand. Yeshua is soon to return; this time as a King on His throne of judgment. It will be a day of rejoicing and justification for those of us who have believed in Him and allowed Him to transform us into the people He created us to be. Yet for the rebellious, it will be a day of fear and doom as He repays them for their sins against Him. Many of us within the Body of the Messiah believe that we will be justified on that day no matter what we do now. This is a lie from the Adversary to lull us into complacency leading to disobedience and finally rebellion.
Both the New Testament and Old Testament texts above show God’s judgment beginning with those who claim to know Him best and are responsible for representing Him to His people. Peter states that “it is time for judgment to begin with the family of God”; we know this family includes the children of Isra’el and all believers in Yeshua. In the text in Ezekiel, judgment began at the temple with the elders. God’s purposes in judgment never change. He is always concerned with purging the earth of evil. This was true in Noah’s day and it is true now.
Peter clearly states that the time is NOW for judgment of the family of God. We are not to be judged at the same time as the rest of the earth, just as the children of Isra’el were judge before many of their neighbors. As a loving and merciful Father, ADONAI (the LORD) disciplines us now, so that we will escape final judgment at the end of all things (see Hebrews ch. 12). Even when we do not produce fruit for the Kingdom, Yeshua pleads with God on our behalf for more time to submit to His will for our individual lives and the collective life of the Body of Believers (see Matthew 3:7-10 and Luke 13:1-9).
Judgment of Oneself
Yeshua’s finished works on the cross paid for all of our sins as believers. However, we must allow Him to apply His blood to every area of our lives and hearts infected by sin. To do this, we must follow Paul’s direction in Romans 12:1-3: “Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God—this is your spiritual act of worship (the Complete Jewish Bible reads “it is the logical ‘Temple worship’ for you”). Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment.”
Judgment of oneself begins with reviewing God’s mercies. If we do not see ourselves as sinners in need of God’s mercy through the sacrifice of Yeshua, we will not receive it. We must maintain this attitude throughout our walk with the Messiah. Regardless of how much He cleanses us and uses us, we must always remember that His grace and mercy keep us.
As Yeshua presented His body as a sacrifice for all sins, we must bring our flesh, that is, our sinful nature, before ADONAI (the LORD) to be sacrificed on His altar. Practically, this means to come before Him daily to confess our sins, receive His forgiveness into our hearts and ask that He empower us to repent (turn away from them). Though we do not have a temple to make physical sacrifices, we have “altars” in our secret prayer closets at which we present our requests to God. However, before we make any requests, we must present the spiritual sacrifices of our sins on His altar. He knows all of our sinful deeds, motives and thoughts. Presenting ourselves daily allows Him to reveal sin to us, forgive us of the sin and begin to change us by renewing our minds.
Paul makes it clear that it takes renewed minds to no longer conform to the pattern of this world. We have grown up in this world, and we are very familiar with the world’s ways. Yet God’s ways are not our ways (Isaiah 55:8), so we must allow Him to change our thinking in order for us to even view the world’s ways (our former ways) as evil and then to understand and walk in His ways. This takes not only teaching, but also training (see 1 Timothy 4:7-8), because we are not able to master the ways of God immediately. Transformation is necessary for us to even receive revelation of God’s will for us, agree with Him that His will for us is best and fulfill His will for our lives.
This regular act
of spiritual worship keeps us humble before God and other believers as we are
constantly reminded of God’s grace to us.
Only then will God send us to share His words of correction with our
brothers and sisters in Yeshua to help get His house in order. He will send us because He knows we will
demonstrate the same grace and mercy He has shown us. Continued

Correction for the Family of God
God does send His children to correct each other. We are not to stand in judgment of each other, but we are responsible for sharing with each other the Word of God and all revelation He gives us for the correction and growth of believers. This is a tall order for sinners such as ourselves, but God prefers to send us rather than unbelievers or Yeshua at the time of judgment. Once we have come to understand that we must continually judge ourselves to avoid the final judgment, God will begin to reveal the sins within the Body of Believers and call us to address them. He will not send us before we come to sober judgment of ourselves, though, to keep us from being judged by Him as hypocrites (see Matthew 7:1-5).
As a family, we must know the difference between being sent by God for correction and standing in judgment. Standing in judgment of God’s people brings feelings of resentment and bitterness as well as rebellion against godly authority, all of which are sins. Sin is a clear sign that we are not within the will of God. Being sent by God to convict, however, comes out of love (see Ephesians 4:15). We feel compassion for other believers and God moves through our compassion to pray for them. As we pray, God will reveal to us how they are going wrong, why they are going wrong (the thought or desire that is fueling their sin) and what they should do to repent and thus correct the situation (see James 5:13-20). Then He will send us to them with His word of correction. If we have not received the three elements above (what is wrong, why and how to correct it), we have not labored in prayer long enough. Without all three elements, we stand the chance of discouraging our brethren rather than correcting them.
Yeshua tells us the process of correcting other believers in Matthew 18:15-20. First, we go to the brother or sister in private, one on one. This keeps defensiveness and performance from hindering the word of correction from being received. When the encounter is private, the other person will not think we are trying to discredit or embarrass them. We should never go to someone else about another believer unless we have spoken to him/her first.
This leads us to the second step: taking two or three witnesses. Often times, brothers and sisters will believe that we have spoken our own opinions to them rather than God’s word of correction. Witnesses help prove to believers who are seeking God that they are truly in the wrong. If three or four believers who love the person being corrected all agree, they are probably speaking God’s words.
Next, Yeshua tells us to bring it before the local body of believers. If he/she still refuses to receive the correction, we are to treat him/her as a pagan or tax collector, basically a person in rebellion to God. Yet Yeshua immediately goes on to binding and loosing on earth as in heaven, which directs us then to begin warring in the Spirit on behalf of this person (as discussed in the previous article).
It is God’s desire that we give and receive correction within the Body. All of us have blind spots created by our own wills and the sinful world in which we live. Yeshua is capable of revealing all truth directly to us, yet we are not always capable of hearing it through the Ruach HaKodesh (Holy Spirit). This is another function of the Body, to be each other’s eyes and ears. We are our brother’s keepers (see Genesis 4:6-11). I may not always see the enemy attacking me or others through me, but if my brothers and sisters in Yeshua are faithful to Him first and to me second, they will correct me in love.
God’s Mouthpiece in the World
All of us have different callings and gifts within the Body of the Messiah. However, each of us should allow God, through the Body, to grow us up in all areas that we may be a complete representation of the Messiah (see Ephesians 4:11-13). As a prophetess in the Body, I say this to you: we know that not all believers are teachers but all believers should be able to teach (see Hebrews 5:12-14); similarly not all believers are prophets but all believers should be used by God to convict the world of sin (see Proverbs 24:25, John 16:7-15 and Jude 20-23). We cannot confess Yeshua as Lord and not represent His truth to the world. No, we cannot force anyone to accept the Word of God, but how can any accept it if we are not sharing it, in all arenas of life?
Believers in
Yeshua are everywhere. It is time that
the world knew that. Our prayers have
kept God from judging many nations, including the
As ambassadors of Yeshua, we must be His light in the world (see Matthew 5:13-16). This is an awesome responsibility. Yet when we accept Yeshua as our Lord and Savior, we accept this charge. Our homes need His light, our schools, our jobs, our communities, our congregations, the Body as a whole and the entire world need it. Hence, God’s words to Ezekiel below ring true for us as well. Our failure to share the truth with others, believers and unbelievers, leaves them in darkness and heading for final judgment. The time is drawing near for the Messiah’s return. When He comes back, will He find His Body preparing the world for Him, or will He find us asleep, having taken His salvation for granted?
“When I say to the wicked, ‘O wicked man, you will
surely die,’ and you do not speak out to dissuade him from his ways, that
wicked man will die for his sin, and I will hold you accountable for his
blood. But if you warn the wicked man to
turn from his ways and he does not do so, he will die for his sin, but you will
have saved yourself.”—Ezekiel 33:8-9

Last month, we began our study of the earthly tabernacle, a replica of heaven, as a model for entering into the presence of God (Hebrews 8:1-10:31). Following is a bird’s eye view of the first temple and an overview of the worship experience. Our study will look at worship from God’s perspective, highlighting His purposes. Thus, we began in the inner sanctuary, the place of His presence. This month, we will begin moving outward as we back track our journey into the presence of God. For the next few months, we will study the outer sanctuary.

Inner
Sanctuary
In His
Presence—Worshippers receive
anointing from God and/or hear God’s voice.
He gives us power from on high, we get answers to our prayers, and we
receive instructions to depart as vessels for His use. Worshippers then make requests of God to
receive all that we will need to carry out the instructions He has given.
Outer Sanctuary
Thanksgiving and Adoration—Worshippers review the past, reflect on the present
and receive encouragement about the future.
We are then moved to thank God for what He has done and adore God for
who He is. We worship through prayer and
praise, our incense offerings.
Inner Court
Covenant—The
Word of God is read as a review of our covenant with Him. We are then convicted of breaking our
covenant through sin and compelled to recommit ourselves to the covenant.
Confession and Repentance—Worshippers confess sins to God and cry out to Him
for forgiveness. To repent, we lay our
flesh on the altar, thus denying our sinful nature and believing that God can
fill us with His Spirit. Sin is atoned
for by the Blood of the sacrificed Lamb and worshippers are cleansed to bring
pure incense offerings to God.
Outer Court
Preparation for Worship—The hearts and minds of worshippers are prepared for
the experience God desires to have with us.
He must draw our focus to Him, thereby preparing us for meaningful
worship.

In Revelation chapter 21, we see God’s tabernacle (dwelling) come to be with man forever. God is the only source of light and Yeshua (Jesus) is the lamp (verse 23). Revelation 1:20 clearly states that the seven lampstands are the congregations of believers. The lampstand in the early tabernacle is, then, a foreshadowing of the oneness of believers in Yeshua and Yeshua in the Father at the end of all things (see also John 17:20-26). The lampstand in the tabernacle was made of one shaft with six branches, representing the congregations of believers all stemming from the one true vine, Yeshua (see John 15:1-8). Additionally, each of the seven stands held a lamp, which represents Yeshua. Congregations are set apart for the sole purpose of lifting up Yeshua.

“It's time that we put our motives aside
and come together to fulfill the ministry to which Christ
called us. Unbelievers need to see unity in the Body of the Messiah to
believe Jesus (Yeshua) is the Son of God. This unity is necessary
for the Great Commission to be fulfilled and the world to believe in the

they be brought to complete unity to let the world know that you sent me and
have loved them even as you have loved me."

There are young people among us who are examples for us of purity, wisdom, strength and zeal. Because of the mighty men and women of God who preceded them, they are spiritual giants who, like Elisha, have inherited a double portion of the Ruach HaKodesh (Holy Spirit) (see 2 Kings 2:9-15). Yet rather than praise God for this wonderful gift to the Body, many of us stifle the young warriors around us, subjecting them to man-made rules that arise out of our jealousy of their freedom in the Messiah and the tremendous ways in which God uses them.
In Joel 2:12-17, ADONAI (the LORD) rebukes His people for being religious rather than holy. In verses 12-13, He speaks through the prophet Joel saying, “‘Even now,’ declares the LORD, ‘return to me with all your heart, with fasting and weeping and mourning. Rend your heart and not your garments.’” In many ways, our worship of God today resembles the worship God rejected in the text. We put on wonderful shows and exalt ourselves and other men rather than sincerely presenting ourselves to Yeshua (Jesus). The Ruach HaKodesh (Holy Spirit) in many of God’s young soldiers will not allow them to do that. They agonize while they watch us go through the motions, and they hold their breaths waiting for an opportunity to truly worship the one true God.
When we submit ourselves to God and give up the appearance of worship for true devotion, we free our young people to be who God has created them to be. Part of God’s response to the repentance of His people in Joel chapter 2 is found in verse 28: “And afterward, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your old men will dream dreams, your young men will have visions.” Our children are prophesying and having dreams. We must create an environment within the Body that not only accepts their gifts, but also trains them to use them.
The
day of ADONAI is near, so they are going
to be gifted. The enemy wants to fill
them with rebellion and arrogance, and we are their only defense. We must respect the Ruach (Spirit) working within
them. Respected people respect
others. We must also train them to
exhort older men as fathers, treat young men as brothers, older women as
mothers and young women as sisters (1 Timothy 5:1-2). This training includes preparing them as we
would any minister, encouraging them to use their gifts in the ministry,
allowing them to make some mistakes, and giving them constructive feedback
after each ministry opportunity. Then
emotional and social maturity as well as practical knowledge of ministry will
be added to their anointing. Because
they have the fight in their hearts, they are already warriors. After having ministered with some of them, I
know we are better off with them on our side.
